Tangent but similar - back in the late 80's I was talking to someone in the cong about how mum had just talked dad into buying us a microwave oven, this person told me they wouldn't buy a microwave until the org had published an awake article on them.
Seems so innocuous doesn't it? for me it was a bit of a watershed moment when I realised that these people were too mindless to be able to make decisions for themselves over even the smallest matters.

today's high school students in the usa:.
less than 1/2 of them cannot identify the century when our civil war happened.. one in four thought columbus discovered america sometime after 1750.. one in three cannot name one right enumerated in the bill of rights.. three out of four cannot name the first us president.. two out of three do not know the length of term of a member of the house of representatives.. half cannot find britain on a map.. one out of four cannot find america on a map.. when my oldest daughter, who is now a physician was in 9th grade in this once-great state of california, i asked her about the three branches of our federal government.
she was clueless and told me she would take civics in her junior year in high school.

i see alot of new names here lately and if you look at the log on names here there are thousands who have moved on....every 2 years the posters change.....some vent and leave, others stay on for years.
i guess moving on with your life is a good thing, i think this site helps...any thoughts?.
Its interesting isn't it, this site and others like it help us in many ways, depending on what you are looking for.
For me, when I joined 6 years ago, I had recently made contact with my still-in family and the encounter had brought all of the old rage back to the surface. I had some seriously unresolved issues which I had buried at the back of my mind and had let them negatively affect my everyday life. Coming here was very cathartic, venting helped me lose the rage and anger so that I could start the journey of moving on from this thing in my past.
Now, I have been out for 20 years and am in a place where I am no longer defined by my being an ex-jw, so I don't have so much of a need to be here. I made some friends along the way but real life has got in the way of remaining part of this community, although I still drop in once in a while to have a read and a chuckle.
here's my situation.

You may not be a liar but you are certainly an asshole. Clearly you are too immature to handle authority and discipline, I can relate - being brought up as a JW doesn't teach you to play well with the normal kids and oppression causes rebellion issues in some people. Despite this, projecting your own faults and issues onto others is pretty childish.

its taken the better part of a year but i'm finaly having pangs of homesickness... it all started when i saw a red london bus ( they use it around here for tourist tours) .. got worse when i went to a out door ex pat event, were it suddenly poured with rain, it was amazing to see the blitz spirt come out!
the locals packed up and left but the brits started singing ( " i'm singing in the rain!
") handing out free wine and chips, almost like a party really, everyone was so happy... and you could see the locals looking at them as if to say " you british werdios!".
We miss:
Decent chocolate, although you can get Green & Blacks here. The local stuff, especially Cadbury's, is very waxy - I think they add more vegetable oil to stop it melting.
Tetleys Tea - although we can get it in the Brit shop now
A sense of humour that understands irony, sarcasm and wit - these colonials can be extremely dense at times
Green, yes Green - the countryside here is very dry
Decent Curry - If a few Indians/Pakistanis/Bangladeshis were to move to Perth they could make a killing with the number of Brits here
An effective work ethic. We have been here 4.5 years and it still amazes me how lax things are here; tradies will not bother turning up or will do slipshod work when they do, all of the IT people I work with have a "that'll do" attitude. This winds me up, but thats my problem not theirs.
Having said that....we have just been back to the UK for three weeks and I can honestly say that we will never be moving back. Despite all its faults and the small mindedness of the natives, Australia and Perth in particular is an awesome place to live and raise a family.
If Hitler had invaded the UK after Dunkirk it would have all been over, with or without the intercedence of the US. Losing the UK as a springboard for D Day would have made retaking Europe impossible. Apparently Hitler did not invade because of the advice of his fortune teller.
Obviously the sheer amount of men and material from the USA was one of the biggest factors in the Allies winning the war although Hitler made a series of fatal strategic errors, the biggest of which was engaging in war on two fronts.
